If the Grass is Greener… Drink It!
It looks just like the stuff in your yard but wheatgrass is quite different from common lawn grass.
Wheatgrass is medicine, pure and simple, and is loaded with nutrients. Consider the fact that just 2 ounces of the green juice has the nutritional equivalent of five POUNDS of raw organic vegetables. Read that sentence again. It has twice the amount of vitamin A as carrots and is higher in vitamin C than even oranges.
It also has all of the B vitamins, all of them, as well as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium and potassium in a balanced ratio, and it supplies all of the essential amino acids our bodies need.
As if that weren’t enough to make you say to yourself, “well, I guess I’d better start drinking the stuff,” wheatgrass also contains special enzymes that help protect our bodies from carcinogens, so it is one of the most powerful detoxifiers imaginable. This amazing juice rids your tissues and organs of any heavy metals, pollutants and a host of other toxins.
I grow and juice my own wheatgrass and can tell you from personal experience that it is powerful medicine.
Sprouts – the Other Health Food You Should be Eating
I also wanted to share with you the amazing benefits of sprouts. You know, those things you probably skip over at the salad bar. Well stop skipping over them because sprouts have up to 30 times the nutrition of organic veggies. This is because sprouts are baby plants and at this stage of their growth have the highest concentrations of nutrients.
When you soak seeds in water and sprout them, they suddenly burst to life and the levels of minerals, vitamins and amino acids skyrockets. During the first 12 days of growth is the best time to harvest these little tiny superfoods because the enzyme content is actually 100 times higher than raw veggies and specific B-vitamins increase by 1200%.
And here’s something really cool about sprouts – they are biogenic, which means not only are they very much alive, but this life-force can actually be transferred to our bodies when we consume them. Who couldn’t use a little more life?
Sprouts have the ability to protect us from disease and cellular breakdown. John Hopkins found that broccoli sprouts contain a substance called sulforaphane which is a natural cancer fighter! In fact research has shown that broccoli sprouts are the most powerful anti-cancer substance ever discovered – either natural or man-made!
I am always so pleased to see modern medicine confirm what many people, like Hippocrates (“Let FOOD be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”) have known for ages: there are plenty of natural ways we can prevent and cure disease, we don’t always (or ever) need to take little pills and potions formulated in a lab for the sole purpose of putting money in the pockets of big pharma.
